In order to view the streaming video from outside your home network, you will have to set your LinkSys router to use "Port Forwarding". The WebCam Monitor User Guide has instructions on setting up streaming: https://www.deskshare.com/help/WCM/StreamingVideoAudio.aspx Use these procedures to select a port for streaming video, then configure the router to forward that port to the Internet from the PC running WebCam Monitor. This should make the video stream available outside your local network. Dyndns.org would let you assign a domain name (such as yourname.dyndns.org) to your video stream. Another site that will do this for you is no-ip.org. Both offer free services. There are several other alternatives.

WebCam Monitor will work with any Internet Service Provider that supplies an outgoing mail server using the standard SMTP protocol. The WebCam Monitor User Guide has a section on configuring outgoing mail. You will have to consult your Internet Service Provider to get specific information such as the name of their SMTP server, and whether login and password are required. GMail requires encryption to use their servers for outgoing mail. We plan to support encryption and GMail in a future release of WebCam Monitor.

We have an option to switch the audio rendering on and off in WebCam Monitor. This option is present under the Tools menu] Options] General tab] Enable Audio playback while preview.

The limit for streaming is the amount of bandwidth available for upload. In your case, since the camera is located at your home, the limit is 384Kbps. In the case of both the locations from where you are trying to connect, you have at least 384Kbps available for download. Therefore, the best speed for you is 384Kbps.

I had that same problem with my two IC-50 Micro Innovation webcams ($20 at walmart). What caused the problem was one of there applications in the STARTUP (Icatch(VI) SnapDetect). Remove it and the CPU usage will drop 50% or less. I'm sure other webcam mfg have something similar running. Check your 'processes' in the windows task manager.

When WebCam Monitor switches devices then the format of the video feed changes. WebCam Monitor must therefore restart streaming.

You do not need an internet connection to setup WebCam Monitor. By default, WebCam Monitor saves both Video Recordings and Snaps locally. You can view these files from Recordings tab of WebCam Monitor. By default, the files are saved in My Documents under a folder named "WebCam Monitor Media".

The latest version supports most of the popular IP cameras. The entire list of supported IP cameras is displayed in the software. We are constantly adding additional cameras, therefore you can download the latest version to get the most accurate list of IP cameras supported. You can download the latest version from the following page: https://www.deskshare.com/download.aspx If you're looking for a recommendation on choosing an IP camera. I can recommend the Sony IP cameras which are all supported by the software and work very well.

WebCam Monitor is capable of uploading snaps generated by the "Take Snap Alert" to an FTP server. By default, JPEG snaps are uploaded with different names. You can choose to upload the JPEG snaps with the same name. To specify the name of the JPEG snap: On the Tools menu, click Options Select the Remote Monitoring tab Under Upload, click Configure Under Upload Files, select the Continuously overwrite snap file name option. Specify the name of the JPEG snap file. Click OK WebCam Monitor will now upload all JPEG snaps with the specified snap name; overwriting the JPEG snap already present. You can also configure multiple cameras to run in a cycle using the "Schedule through Multiple Devices in a Cycle" option.

The mail server "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" is for Yahoo Mail Plus users. If you have subscribed to this Yahoo mail service then you must provide authentication information along with the mail server name - "smtp.mail.yahoo.com". In WebCam Monitor, you can provide the user name and password by checking the "My Outgoing mail server requires authentication" option under "Configure Mail Server". If you do not specify a mail server then WebCam Monitor automatically tries to determine the mail server's address from the e-mail's domain name. If you are using any e-mail client like Outlook or Outlook Express, you can copy the SMTP settings to "Outgoing Mail Server" dialog in WebCam Monitor.

WebCam Monitor can upload video, audio and snaps to a FTP web address. To configure FTP settings, point to the 'Tools' menu and click 'Options'. Select the 'Remote Monitoring' tab. Under 'Upload', click 'Configure'. WebCam Monitor can also stream videos in the Windows Media format. You can view the streamed video using Windows Media Player 9 or higher. Unfortunately, WebCam Monitor does not support a format compatible with 3G phones.

WebCam Monitor's E-mail Notification Alert generates and sends an e-mail instantly when motion or noise is detected. It is important to report an alert as quickly as possible. If you want to reduce the amount of e-mail then you can simply reduce the Motion and Noise Sensitivity settings from Tools ] Options ] Monitoring. The size of the JPEG image that is part of the e-mail is only 3K. If you have enough bandwidth then it should be easy for you to receive these e-mails. There is a setting to reduce the JPEG quality to further reduce the size of the e-mail, which will result in a faster e-mail delivery. This setting is in the Take Snaps Settings (Tools ] Options ] Monitoring ] Snaps Configuration).

WebCam Monitor can overlay date and time on video recordings and snaps. To enable this feature, point to the Tools menu and click Options. Under the General tab, select Add a Stamp on Video Recordings and Snaps option. Unfortunately, the current version of WebCam Monitor cannot overlay images on videos and snaps.

It seems like you are uploading to a BSD server with Pure-ftpd as your FTP server. It is possible that your FTP server does not support certain characters that are part of the JPEG snap's file name. If this is the case, you can set WebCam Monitor to append numbers instead of date and time. These types of file names should be supported by any FTP server. To know the file that WebCam Monitor is currently uploading, you can view the Upload Status from the View menu. This option is available in the latest version of WebCam Monitor. It may also help to clear the entire upload list before you start monitoring.

Hi, so far I have learned that I have three IPs, one public or external router which is dynamis but I turn static, the second the internal router which is 192.168.1.1 always and the third the IP of my PC which is 192.168.1.2 always. I have to forward one port in order to make routable my IP address and used for viewing a streamed video. So when I get into my router and open a port they ask me for an internal port so I wrote 192.168.1.2 (My PC IP) and a port whatever Then I write the same port in my WCM settings. But when I try to wacth from my office the windows media player show me a message,"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct." So what am I doing wrong?, please I really need help on this. Just in case I use OS Windows XP in both places in my house I have speedy 200 from telefonica and XAVI7768 router in my office I have speedy 600 from telefonica and XAVI 7768router. In my home I have 304Mb RAM memory in my PC thanks

A typical configuration of most PCs will not allow you to start mutliple cameras at the same time. In Windows XP, you can start your cameras in Windows Explorer itself. You will get a bandwith error when you try to start a second camera. WebCam Monitor therefore provides you with an option to configure multiple devices in a cycle, where only one camera is used at any given time. After the specified time interval, WebCam Monitor switches to the next device pair configured in the cycle. When one camera is in use, all other cameras remain switched off.

Streaming works only off a routable (static) IP address. See if you are able to ping your IP address from the computer you are trying to view the streams. If you are using a non-routable (dynamic) IP address then you will find the following posts useful: https://www.deskshare.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=710 https://www.deskshare.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1423 Secondly, make sure that your firewall does not block the specified port. In your case, it is port 5000. To test, you can change the port number to 80 (for http, which usually is not blocked by firewalls) and then try streaming.

First, make sure that you are using the latest version of WebCam Monitor. To download the latest version, visit: https://www.deskshare.com/wcm.aspx To detect only noise, you must disable motion detection. To do so, point to the Tools menu and click Options. Click the Monitoring tab and under Motion Detection, uncheck the "Enable Motion Detection" option. By default, WebCam Monitor selects the first audio device for noise detection. You can change the devices from the drop-downs placed above the preview window. The Add Camera Wizard from the File menu can also be used for changing audio and video devices. Although the noise will trigger Video/Audio Recording but it will not record the sound itself. We are working on a pre-buffered recording scheme that will enable WebCam Monitor to record video and audio data that ocurred before the trigger. To monitor the camera remotely at a scheduled time, simply click "Start Streaming" from the toolbar. Then using the Device Scheduler, set WebCam Monitor to start at 12:00 a.m. and stop at 6:00 a.m. When the devices start, streaming will automatically start transmitting video/audio streams. Next you can go to your remote PC and view the video/audio stream by typing in the URL given to you by WebCam Monitor.
