It sounds like you have also enabled the alert to trigger periodically after the specified time duration. WebCam Monitor can trigger alerts when: Motion or noise is detected Periodically after the specified time duration These settings are available in the Quick Settings pane under Automatically Alert Me box. Make sure that only "When motion or noise is detected" option is checked. Uncheck the "Periodically after every." option.

When WebCam Monitor detects motion, it tiggers all selected alerts. Just before triggering the alerts (Video/Audio Recording, Take Snap, E-mail Notification or Sound Alarm), WebCam Monitor suspends monitoring while the alerts are being processed. After all the selected alerts complete, monitoring resumes automatically. WebCam Monitor's log window is very useful when you want to know when alerts start and stop. You must wait for all alerts to complete and then attempt to test motion detection again. A good way to test motion detection is to turn off all Alerts. The log window displays a "Motion Detected" message everytime WebCam Monitor detects motion. Since there are no Alerts to run, WebCam Monitor instantly resumes monitoring.

By default, WebCam Monitor will not trigger motion when changes in the light are gradual. You can increase the motion detection sensitivity from the Tools ] Options ] Monitoring tab. If your camera has a backlight compensation feature then turning this option off may also help. This option tries to compensate for changes in light and hence sometimes interferes with motion detection. If the light is suddenly switched off then WebCam Monitor will detect motion.

You can reduce the number of snaps taken by WebCam Monitor. To do so: On the Monitor menu, click Settings. Select the Take Snap alert. Under the General tab, reduce the number of snaps. You can also increase the snap rate so that WebCam Monitor takes snaps at larger frame intervals. To do so: On the Monitor menu, click Settings. Select the Take Snap alert. Under the Output tab, increase the snap rate in "Take snap after every frame" box. If you are monitoring bright areas then you can also turn-off some of your camera-specific properties like the Backlight Compensation. To change these settings, point to the tools menu and click Camera Properties.

Yes, you can connect multiple cameras to your computer using a USB hub and then use WebCam Monitor to cycle through them. WebCam Monitor's Cycle through mutliple devices feature present in the Device Scheduler will enable you to do so. You can also assign the duration for which you want to monitor from every connected WebCam. Since WebCam Monitor operates devices based on indices and not based on their names, you will be able to connect multiple cameras of the same make on the same machine. You can read about setting up multiple cameras from our article at: https://www.deskshare.com/Resources/articles/wcm_UsingMultipleCameras_MonitorEffectively.aspx

This problem is related to your PC's recording and playback settings. To fix this problem, make sure that you mute the Microphone for playback and select the Microphone for recording. This will eliminate the knocking sound. To do so, follow these steps: In the task bar, double click on the `Volume' notification icon In the `Master Volume' dialog, point to the 'Options' menu and click 'Properties' Under Adjust volume for', select Playback' From Show the following volume controls', check Microphone' Click OK Under 'Microphone', check the 'Mute' option Again, point to the 'Options' menu and click 'Properties' Under Adjust volume for', select Recording' From Show the following volume controls', check Microphone' Click OK Under 'Microphone', check the 'Select' option

Make sure that you are using the latest version of WebCam Monitor. To download the latest version, visit: https://www.deskshare.com/wcm.aspx It seems like the e-mail is being sent. However, because your e-mail server requires authentication, it might be denying a relay to your e-mail. To diagnose e-mail related problems, you can view the e-mail log after attempting to send a test e-mail. This option is available in Tools ] Options ] Alerts tab ] Email/SMS Notification. If this is a relay problem then you will have to contact your ISP.

This may be a problem with the Windows configuration on your PC. We were able to simulate this problem on an older Windows 2000 PC. We are looking into the problem. If you have access to another PC then you try configuring WebCam Monitor on that PC.

WebCam Monitor does not receive e-mails by connecting to mail servers. It simply sends e-mail through a mail server. If the mail server is specified then that server is used directly. Otherwise, a mail server is resolved from the domain name (gmail.com). Simply use any one of the 5 mail servers resolved by WebCam Monitor. The E-mail Notification alert will then pick up the mail server directly and use it to send e-mails.

To date/time stamp a video you need to enable Date/Time stamp. To do so: On the Tools menu click Options. Under the General tab, select the option "Add a Stamp on Video Recordings and Snaps". Select the "Date and Time" or "Text" stamp. Click OK. You can also sort the snaps and video by date and time under the Recordings tab at the bottom of the main application interface.

You do need a second computer to test remote monitoring. If you are using a static IP then it should work. For detailed information, please refer to our article on remote monitoring: https://www.deskshare.com/Resources/articles/wcm_viewcameraremotely.aspx

If you're using a proxy server then you need to configure the proxy settings. Some ISP's are blocking port 25 which prevents you from sending direct email. In WebCam Monitor you will have to specify a mail server provided by the ISP.

The 'Take snap after every' setting ranges from 1 to 5. Higher values will result in fewer snaps. The range is limited to 5. Values higher than 5 will result in missing out the activity. The default is set to 1 snap, which should capture most of the activity when the Alert is triggered.
