Digital Media Converter does not convert copy-protected files. If the files were made from a DVD, and if the DVD itself does not have copy protection, Digital Media Converter should be able to convert the content of the DVD directly.

Every installation is different, but the single thing we have found that speeds up conversion the most is more RAM. One big convenience of Digital Media Converter is that you can list all the files that need converting, click "Convert", and then walk away. You can, for instance, list six files to be converted for use on an iPod, then go to bed, and wake up to find them all ready to transfer. Digital Media Converter can even be set to turn the PC off after it finishes converting.

When you chose MPEG 1 VCD as the `Convert to Format', the Properties page greys out because the standard properties for making a VCD in MPEG 1 format are listed and you cannot change them. Digital Media Converter has a Custom MPEG 1 option. If you chose this as the conversion format, you can change Properties like Video Dimension, Frame Rate, Audio Bitrate and Audio Frequency to suit your requirements.

To keep the widescreen aspect ratio, you can choose one of the Windows Media Format profiles that don't change the video dimensions. For instance, if you select "WMV - For Desktop Viewing" as your Convert To Format, and use Very High Quality video, the converted video will have the same aspect ratio as the original file.

The Elecard MPEG2 codec is not supported. We recommend that you download the free GPL MPEG2 Decoder. You can also download this decoder from: https://www.deskshare.com/download/mpeg2decoder.exe You will also need to disable other MPEG decoders. You can accomplish this by going to Tools ] Settings ] Compatibility. Uncheck all MPEG decoders.

To write your video files to a DVD for viewing a TV or DVD player: Convert the video files to MPEG-2 NTSC (US) or MPEG-2 PAL (Europe). Use any third-party DVD burning software like "Nero Vision" to write the MPEG-2 files to a DVD disk. You must select to make a "Video DVD" (not a "Data DVD"). Now you can view the DVD on any DVD player.

Please make sure that you are using the latest version of Digital Media Converter. If the latest version of Digital Media Converter finds the Free MPEG2 Decoder installed on your computer then it will use it by default. You can download the latest version of Digital Media Converter from: https://www.deskshare.com/audio-video-converter.aspx You may still need to disable all other MPEG2 decoders. Digital Media Converter lists all available decoders under the Compatibility tab of the Settings dialog box. Simply uncheck all other MPEG2 decoders present in the list.

If the source audio is scratchy then the converted audio will also be scratchy. However, if the source video is fine then you can increase the audio frequency setting from the AVI Properties tab of the Settings dialog box. By increasing the audio frequency, the conversion will not lose audio quality. The audio frequency setting for AVI is available in the latest version of Digital Media Converter. Please download and install the latest version from: https://www.deskshare.com/audio-video-converter.aspx

Conversion is a very CPU intensive process. A faster processor will certainly make a big difference when converting media files. More memory will also make a difference. Digital Media Converter also works on 64-bit processors.

With Digital Media Converter, you can convert complete VOB files to any of the supported video formats including MPEG-2. The chapter information on a VOB disk is present in separate files and is not part of the video. Digital Media Converter will thus convert only the video.

DVDs contain video in files with type (extension) VOB. If the DVDs are not copyrighted then you can select the DVD from Digital Media Converter and it will offer to copy the video content to your hard-drive. The copy will be region-free. Once the video content are on your hard-drive you can convert it to the WMV format for playback on the media center and the extender. Infact, the media center PC also supports direct playback of VOB files. Digital Media Converter can convert VOB files between NTSC (used in USA) and PAL (used by Europe and Asia). This conversion does not contain the region code. The region code is added by the software you use to burn the videos on the DVD. Digital Media Converter does not have DVD burning capability. However, after converting the videos to either NTSC or PAL, you can burn them using any DVD burning software. Almost all DVD ROMS bundle a DVD burning software.

For the purpose of streaming, you must convert audio files to the Windows Media streaming format (WMA). The file size of the file depends on the type of profile you select when converting to Windows Media. Profiles with lower bit rates will produce smaller files. Click on Tools] Settings ] General Settings. Select "WMV - For Windows Media Server (Streaming)" from the "Convert to Format" dropdown. Then select the "Properties" tab. From "Audio Profiles", select a profile with the least bit-rate. Since sermons are usually voice content, you can select "Voice quality audio (CBR)". For audio files, Digital Media Converter will ignore the Video Profiles selection. You can read the following article that explains streaming media format in details: https://www.deskshare.com/Resources/articles/vc_StreamingMediaFormats.aspx

There seems to be a problem with the Download.com link. We are sorry. You can download the XVID codec from: https://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ Before installing, please un-install the already installed XVID codec from "Add/Remove Programs". You will now be able to see the codec under the AVI Properties dialog under the Settings window.
