Constant bit-rates will keep the bit-rate constant even when the motion in a video varies. Even Variable bit-rate encoding will peak when motion content in a video is high. This type of problem occurs on a slower machine. Try playing the same video on a faster PC and see if you still experience blocky videos. Digital Media Converter does not expose the internal codec properties of XviD or DivX.

WMV conversions in DMC provides you with many profiles. Each profile is designed for different purposes and has corresponding quality. The highest quality profile regardless of file-size is DVD Quality Video. "DVD Quality Video (1Mbps CBR)" profile creates a 1Mbps CBR video. This means that to play such a video, the player must output 1 Mega bits in a single second. CBR stands for Constant Bit Rate. Similarly a video created using "DVD Quality Video (2Mbps CBR)" profile must output twice as much data in a single second. To generalize: The higher the bit-rate, the better the quality. The higher the bit-rate, the more is the processing required.

Please download and install the newest version from the URL: https://www.deskshare.com/audio-video-converter.aspx Upgrading your program is free within the same version number (all 2.x versions). To upgrade your program, you can download the latest version. After installing, if you see a purchase screen, enter your original Serial Number to activate to the full version. You can check to see if the program is registered by selecting "Help" - "About" from the program menu. It will display the registration status.

Microsoft MPEG-4 Video codec, Morgan M-JPEG2000, Microsoft Video 1 and DivX are all AVI video compressors and not formats. The list displayed under 'Convert To' are the available 'formats' to which Digital Media Converter can convert into. Not to be miss-understood, MPEG-4 is also a format. But Microsoft MPEG-4 video codecs are different. They use the MPEG-4 standard to compress AVI files. The files themselves are not MPEG-4 format, but AVI format. The compatibility tab lists all types of compressors, decompressors, decoders and encoders (collectively referred to as Filters) installed on your computer. Digital Media Converter may not use many of these filters. The compatibility is used to disable conflicting filters only in Digital Media Converter. To use one of the mentioned AVI video compressors: On the Tools menu, click Settings. Under the General Settings tab, from the "Convert to Format" box, select AVI. Click the Properties tab. From the Video Compressor box, select the compressor you want. Click OK. This will output to AVI format and compress the AVI file using the selected video compressor.

Thanks again for the advice. I checked each item, including software and found the issue was in the burning software...not the conversion program. I apologize for taking up your time, however, the issue is gone. Thanks...and have a great day! Tom

With the current version of Digital Media Converter, you can change the audio bit-rate (from 224kbps ] 128kbps). MPEG2 is a high-quality format and therefore it does not support Mono audio. Future versions of Digital Media Converter will support conversion of audio frequency (48000khz ] 44100khz).

With Digital Media Converter "Compatibility" feature available from version 2.35 and higher, you can disable one or more MPEG 2 decoders. To view a list of filters (including MPEG 2 decoders) installed on your computer, on the File menu, click Settings and click the Compatibility tab. Uncheck all MPEG 2 decoders but one and see if you are getting a better video playback. You can download a free MPEG 2 decoder from the following link: https://www.deskshare.com/download/mpeg2decoder.exe Note: The compatibility feature disables a filter only in Digital Media Converter. It does not affect any other program in any way. Try using Digital Media Converter's repair utility. This will repair any anomalies present in your file. To repair your file: On the Tools menu, click Attempt to Repair File... Click Browse to specify the file you want to repair. If a file is selected in the conversion list then that file, by default, is specified as the source file. Click Browse to specify the Destination File where the repaired file would be saved. Click Next to repair the file. To add the repaired file to the conversion list make sure that the Add repaired file to the conversion list option is checked. You can now try converting the repaired file to MPEG/DVD format.

When you convert the file to DVD format, make sure that you burn the file to a DVD. This will allow you to play the Video with your DVD player. Similarly, if you want to burn a file on to your CD then convert it to VCD format before burning. The trial version is a fully functional version and only limited by the tag it adds to the converted videos. You may find our article on understanding file sizes for VCD/SVCD and DVD useful: https://www.deskshare.com/Resources/articles/dmc_VcdQuality.aspx

DVR-MS files take time to convert to any Video format. This is normal because DVR-MS formats have very high resolution and are highly compressed. To help with this issue, we have provided an optional setting that allows you to turn off your computer after the conversion is complete.
