You can calculate the size of a file based on the bit rate and time. Start with the total size you want in bits and divide by the time, for example, 350 * 8 /45 = 62Mbits per minute, or a little over 1000Kbits per second. Digital Media Converter Pro already has many predefined profiles, including an AVI at 1024k per second Bit Rate. Click Select Format, select AVI and click the Configure button. Here you can choose the xvid compressor, or if your Media Player supports it, try the Intel H.264 compressor for better quality video at the same bit rate. If you original video dimensions are already 740x544 then select the button for 'Keep source file dimensions'. If you would like to resize the video, select Change Dimensions and enter a custom dimension of 740x544. Note that this will stretch or squeeze your video if it is in a different aspect ratio.
  • Is AC3 5.1 Surround Sound supported for Apple TV format?

The Apple TV format does not support AC3 5.1 encoded files. Movies played on a PC with surround sound require tighter compression and an audio format that is backward compatible with standard stereo receivers. AC3 isn't really a good codec for surround sound in movie files because it uses a fixed bit rate. The newer AAC--developed by Dolby to succeed AC3--also supports 5.1 (or more) channels of audio, and delivers better quality at the same bitrate. AC3 is a audio format that is suited to DVD, just as MPEG-2 is similarly designed for DVD's on the video side. Digital Media Converter Pro will convert your videos to a MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC video and AAC audio) specifically designed to work on Apple TV with high quality video and audio.

You can convert your files and burn them to a Video DVD that will play on any DVD player. You will need 2 different products to accomplish this - Digital Media Converter Pro, and DVD Author Plus. First, use Digital Media Converter Pro to convert the DVR-MS file to MPEG2 format. After adding your DVR-MS file, click 'Select Format', choose 'MPEG2 DVD (NTSC)' and click on Configure. Change the bit rate to 3000 Kbps. Lowering the bit rate will allow you to fit a longer movie onto the DVD. Next, use DVD Author Plus to make your Video DVD. Choose the MPEG2 file you just converted. You can add more than one MPEG2 file, they will play one after the other. Click next, then click burn disc. This will create a Video DVD that will play in any DVD player.

Add your MOV file to Digital Media Converter Pro, click 'Select Format' and click 'Configure' next to the profile 'WMV for Desktop Viewing'. From the list, choose a profile where the output size is 'Same as Input' or one that matches the dimensions of your original file. This should prevent your video from getting stretched during conversion.

Digital Media Converter Pro can convert your DVR-MS files. For the Playstation 3 I suggest converting to Custom MPEG4 and select the h.264 compressor to get high quality files with small file sizes. Place your files on your USB flash drive in a folder named 'videos' and they will automatically show up on your PS3 when you insert the USB stick. For your DVD player you will need to create a MPEG-2 file. Click Select Format on the toolbar and choose MPEG 2 DVD. After conversion, you can burn your video to disc with DVD Author Plus.

Digital Media Converter and the Pro version will both convert MP4 files. If you are playing the MPEG4 files on your PC then Digital Media Converter will work fine for you. However, if you are going to convert files to play on your iPod, Zune, or other portable media device the Pro version will be a better choice. Digital Media Converter Pro has pre-configured profiles for many devices. You can see a full comparison between Digital Media Converter and Digital Media Converter Pro on this page.

The size of Windows Media Video (WMV) files is controlled entirely by the bit rate and the compression codec (compressor) you select. You can create smaller files by doing one or both of these things: Select a profile with a lower bit rate for audio and/or video than the original Select a profile with a superior compressor for audio and/or video. If you select one of the profiles in Digital Media Converter that are designed for online streaming, and pick a lower-bit rate profile, the final file will be smaller. For the greatest control and best compression and video quality, we suggest upgrading to Digital Media Converter Pro.
  • Correct AVI conversion settings for importing to Adobe Premier Elements

This problem with AVI import seems to be the result of a missing or improperly installed DirectX filter on your PC, which is needed for Premiere Elements to import certain multimedia files. If you have a Hewlett-Packard PC, you may need to download and install an updated Realtek High Definition audio driver from HP's web site. If your computer is from another manufacturer, it would be a good idea to be sure you have the latest driver for your audio system. If this does not help, please try using this audio compression with your AVI files: MP3 (MPEG 1 Layer 3) with a Frequency of 44100 Hz and a Bitrate of 256 Kbps.

The default AVI settings use Xvid video compression. If you are using Windows XP or 2000, you may not have the Xvid decompressor installed on your PC. In that case, you can do any of these things: Install the Xvid decompressor from https://www.xvidmovies.com. Reconvert the files using a different video compressor, such as Microsoft MPEG 4. Convert to a different video format, such as Windows Media Video (WMV).

The perfect tool for this job is Auto Movie Creator. Auto Movie Creator has built-in scene detection, which will automatically detect the changes between different videos and help you split them into separate clips. You can export your movies in YouTube's recommended format for uploading, which is MPEG 4 at a screen size of 1280x720 pixels. You can read more about Auto Movie Creator and download a free trial version here: https://www.deskshare.com/amc.aspx

Yes, you can use Digital Media Converter's "Split" feature to extract a portion of the movie. The instructions for splitting files are here: https://www.deskshare.com/help/dmc/splitmediafile.aspx. Splitting has no effect on the original movie. Digital Media Converter never changes the original files when it converts them.
