In order to create a DVD, you need to convert to MPEG-2 DVD (NTSC) format. The MPEG-2 file can be burned to DVD using any DVD burning software, such as Nero Vision or Sonic DVD. Most DVD burners come with DVD burning software. Make sure you select "Video DVD" and not "Data DVD" when choosing which DVD type to create. You can also create a Video CD (VCD), which most DVD players and Windows Media Player can play. Use DMC to convert to MPEG VCD (NTSC) and use your DVD authoring software, such as Nero or Roxio to author the VCD. See the following article: https://www.deskshare.com/resources/articles/dmc_understandingvcddvdformats.aspx If your correspondent is using a Windows PC, he/she should be able to play WMV files. MPEG 1 is the most widely compatible video format. MPEG 1 files can be played on almost any computer, including very old ones. However, they tend to be much larger than the same video saved in MP4 or WMV or QuickTime format. Do you know what type of computer or device your correspondent will be using to play the video?

To create files which you will be able to edit, we recommend converting from DVR-MS into Windows Media Video, using the "WMV for Desktop Viewing" profile. The WMV file you create should work perfectly in your video editor and it will be much smaller than the original DVR-MS file.

"HD" is a term that means the video has "High Definition", or in other words, large dimensions. We don't use the term "HD AVI". We simply call it an AVI file with large dimensions.

Digital Media Converter cannot remove the audio from a video file. In Digital Media Converter Pro, to create silent video files click Tools >> Effects >> Change Volume Level, and change the volume level to 0. We have published an article on creating smaller files, which you can read here: https://www.deskshare.com/resources/articles/dmcpro_ReduceFileSize.aspx WMV and MP4 formats can both produce very small files, but the size depends on the settings you select.

It sounds as if you are saying that the dimensions of the video are too small. In our suggestions for conversion, we asked you to use "Keep Source File Dimensions". If you selected this option, the video that you are importing has exactly the same dimensions as your original video. To increase the frame size of your video, open the Custom MPEG 4 Properties and select "Change Dimensions". Use the Video Dimensions drop-down to select a larger size. Be sure to leave "Lock Aspect Ratio" checked, to avoid changing the appearance of your video.

"The Requested Operation Requires Elevation" means that the program must be run as an Administrator in order to install correctly. Normally, Windows will prompt you to elevate automatically, but it is also possible to do so manually. In order to install the program, right-click on the installer and click "Run as Administrator". The installation will now complete correctly.

Convert to MPEG 2 DVD (NTSC). If the resulting file is more than 4.7 gb in size, you may need to use the Split function to break the movie into shorter segments. To create a video DVD, you must use DVD authoring software. DVD Author Plus is free. Be sure to select a "Video DVD" and not a "Data DVD".

You can convert the file to MPEG 1 at the frame size you mention using Digital Media Converter. Select "Custom MPEG 1" as your Convert To format. To create MPEG 4 files, we would recommend your using the Pro version. Digital Media Converter Pro can perform both tasks, and it is also faster than Digital Media Converter. To resolve the problem with the MPEG 2 decoder, I recommend upgrading to the latest version of Digital Media Converter, which you can find here: https://www.deskshare.com/download_details.aspx?ID=18 This is a free upgrade for all owners of Digital Media Converter 2.x. Try to play the AVI file that is not rendering using the Windows Media Player. Often, this will solve the problem by automatically downloading the correct decoders. It may also be helpful to upgrade Media Player to the latest version, which can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx
  • Combining several VOB files into one movie?

If you would like to combine 5 VOB files into one long WMV file, I would suggest using Auto Movie Creator. This video editor can import VOB files and combine them into a new movie in WMV format with only a few clicks, using a simple wizard-like interface. Regarding your second question, BUP and IFO files are only useful as part of a DVD. They are not needed to watch the video on a portable player. WMV files do not have chapters, so there is no way to use this information.

Early versions of Digital Media Converter Pro included a DVD ripping feature, which could extract individual chapters from a DVD directly. As we continued to improve the ripping function, the amount of code required made the program too large for many people to download. To make the download size more reasonable, we have removed DVD ripping from Digital Media Converter Pro. The current version lacks this capability. We plan to release a separate DVD ripping program as a stand-alone product in May of 2009. This program will be free of charge to all registered owners of Digital Media Converter Pro version 2.2 and earlier who request it. This program will have the ability to extract individual chapters and titles from a DVD.

I think the best way is to contact their support center and send your problems to them via email. I use Pavtube Video Converter to convert VOB to other videos. There is no need to add all VOB files, as VOB is already in real video format, different from ISO files.

I would suggest reinstalling the Xvid compressor. There are many versions of Xvid, and we have found problems with some of them. The version we recommend can be downloaded from our web site: www.deskshare.com/download/xvid.exe

First, make sure that the VOB file is not encrypted or protected in any way. Another option is to use Digital Media Converter Pro. If you have the DVD, you can rip titles and chapters or the entire DVD directly to any format, without worrying about individual VOB files. You can download and test using the trial version of Digital Media Converter Pro: https://www.deskshare.com/download_details.aspx?ID=30.

If you are using a version of Windows prior to Vista, you will need to install the GPL MPEG 2 decoder to convert your MPEG 2 files. You can download it here: https://www.deskshare.com/download/mpeg2decoder.exe. This decoder has built-in support for AC3 audio. Please install this decoder and try your conversion again. You may also have to open the program Settings, switch to the Compatibility tab, and uncheck all AC3 and MPEG decoders.

To play on the Razr, use these settings: Choose the 3GP file format. Use MPEG 4 compression, both for audio and video. Set the Video Dimensions to 176 X 144. Files with larger dimensions will not play on the Razr. Files converted using these settings will play correctly on the Razr V3.

You can change the video frame size of your video files in Digital Media Converter Pro. Simply add your files to the Conversion List, then click the "Settings" toolbar button. Choose which format you would like to convert into. For instance, you can select Custom MPEG 4 or Windows Media Video. Then click on the Properties button. On the Properties tab for most video formats, you are given the choices "Keep Source File Dimensions" or "Change Dimensions". Select Change Dimensions, and you can choose 320x240 from the drop-down list. For Windows Media Video, you can select the dimensions you need from the drop-down Change Dimension list. Some file formats have a Dimension drop-down list to choose from. Select 320x240, and click OK, then Start and your video files will be converted to the new format, and have the dimensions you require.
