Yes, WebCam Monitor can both save your time lapse images to a local drive every 10 seconds and upload by FTP every minute. To configure the image capture, click Tools >> Options >> Monitoring. Under 'Run Alerts' select 'After Every' and set it to 10 seconds. Select 'Take Photo' and click on the configure button. Set the folder to save to along with the filename options you want. To configure FTP uploads, click Tools >> Options >> Remote Monitoring. Click the configure button under 'Upload'. Enter your FTP settings. Select to upload Photos and select 'Overwrite Photo Files with the name' and enter the name. Under 'Upload Behavior' select 'Enable Automatic Upload' and set the time to 'After Every' 1 minute. Search this forum if you would like some sample code to view the uploaded image with automatic refreshes.

It sounds like you have the FTP upload settings configured correctly in WebCam Monitor. You will need to click Tools >> Start FTP Upload to begin the FTP uploads. If there are any files in the queue, they will be uploaded. New recordings will be uploaded on the schedule you have configured, either immediately or every xx minutes.

WebCam Monitor has a flexible broadcasting control. Increasing the bit-rate for the broadcast will give you a better quality remote live view. Click Tools >> Options >> Remote Monitoring >> Broadcasting >> Configure. Change the profile to 'Video for broadband NTSC (768Kbps)'. You will now have a clear live view of your camera.

WebCam Monitor allows you to take pictures at scheduled intervals. The numbering is not limited. If you are using picture numbering with 'cycling' the maximum number is 60. Instead of cycling, you can use simply set sequential numbering. Uncheck the box for cycling the numbers. Now you can have as many pictures as you like in the interval you want.

  • What are the legal guidelines to use video surveillance in a workplace?

Using WebCam Monitor in a work environment is legally allowed. Hidden cameras are also allowed when they only record video. A notification on the wall is not required unless you are recording audio. Audio recording in a workplace requires notifications according to Federal or State wiretap guidelines. The exception to video surveillance is where an expectation of privacy is implied - meaning a locker room, bathroom, lounge, break room, etc. Most of the laws were created regarding employers monitoring workplace employees - monitoring for theft is more permissive. Please note that this information is from general Federal guidelines. I don't know of any specific Massachusetts laws prohibiting the recording you are looking to do to catch the thief.

If you contact the manufacturer of the camera, you may be able to get the URL of the video stream. If this is available, you can use the Generic IP Camera profile in WebCam Monitor. More information about using the generic camera profile can be found here. Since you mentioned that the camera looks similar to a Foscam, you can try our other surveillance software, Security Monitor Pro, it supports the full line of Foscam cameras. I also suggest trying the Trendnet and Shenzen camera profiles. One of these may work with your camera.

Both our surveillance products, WebCam Monitor and Security Monitor Pro, can search your network for your camera. Click File >> Add Camera Wizard and choose 'Select or add a IP camera' and click Next. Click the 'Add' button and select your camera model from the pulldown list. Now, enter the beginning IP address on your network and click on the binoculars. A search box will appear and you can enter the ending IP address. Click OK to begin the search. When the search is complete you can select which camera you would like to add.

There is always going to be some delay between what is seen on the camera to what is seen on the remote PC. WebCam Monitor captures from your webcam and broadcasts the stream as quickly as your PC is able to. Having a fast PC helps reduce delay. Much of the delay is introduced by the Windows Media Player on your PC, you can reduce this. Start your Windows Media Player, click Tools >> Options >> Performance and reduce the buffer time to 0 seconds. This should give you a more 'real-time' view.

You can detach the camera preview windows in Security Monitor Pro. The preview windows can be detached, resized and arranged in any order. If you have multiple monitors on your PC, you can arrange the previews of each camera on a separate monitor while you work with your applications on your PC's main monitor.

The maximum length of a standard USB cable (for USB 2.0 or earlier) is 5 metres, or about 15 feet. There are a number of USB extenders that will allow you to use a USB connection up to 150 feet, but the cost of these extenders exceeds $150. For a lower cost you can purchase IP cameras to replace the USB cameras you have. A full list of supported IP cameras in WebCam Monitor are available here: https://www.deskshare.com/faqproduct.aspx?ID=12#10

You can control the number of simultaneous viewers in WebCam Monitor. Click on Tools >> Options >> Remote Monitoring and click the 'Configure' button for Broadcasting. Set the maximum number of concurrent viewers allowed. Each simultaneous viewer uses bandwidth on your internet connection. Make sure you have adequate bandwidth for the maximum number of viewers you allow.
