This is probably because you do not have permission to create files in the selected location. Click the Tools menu, then Settings. On the first tab of the Settings window, click the Browse button for the Working Folder. Select a folder which you have full access to. For instance, if you are using Windows XP, select a folder in My Documents. If you are using Vista, select one in Documents. This should solve your problem.

The banding issue is probably the result of using too low a "color depth". To change the color depth of your recording, open the Settings window, and switch to the Performance tab. In the Color quality while recording drop-down list, select 32. You may have to increase the color depth of your Windows display settings as well. In Windows Vista, right-click on an empty part of the Desktop and choose Personalize, then click Display in the Control Panel/Personalization window. On the Monitor tab, open the Colors drop-down list and choose Highest. In Windows XP, right-click on an empty part of the Desktop and choose Properties. Switch to the Settings tab. Set Color Quality to at least 32 bit.

As you wrote, there are external programs that do this. We will consider adding audio feedback features to a future version of My Screen Recorder Pro. You can use visual cues to indicate a mouse click, as described here: https://www.deskshare.com/help/msrpro/CaptureMouseCursor.aspx

Windows Vista changed the way that sound is played and recorded. This required the makers of sound equipment to write new drivers. Many of the first generation Vista sound drivers did not allow recording from the "Wave Out" (speaker) device. Makers of sound chips are now releasing new drivers that restore this capability. Please try these steps to activate the necessary device to re-enable recording from speakers: Right-click on the speaker icon in the tray Select "Recording Devices" from the menu A window opens. Switch to the "Recording" tab. Right click in an empty area and select "Show disabled devices". Different manufacturers use different terminology for the proper recording device. It may be called "Wave Out" or "What You Hear". Now that this device is enabled, you should be able to record from speakers. Note that you may have to download and install the latest driver from the maker of your sound card or sound chip before this works, and it currently does not work for all sound hardware.

My Screen Recorder will only list certain codecs that we know are appropriate for recording. If you install other codecs, they will not be added to the list of available codecs in My Screen Recorder. We recommend Microsoft Video 1 at the default settings.

My Screen Recorder works with any microphone. There is an issue with certain microphones and Windows, which requires you to open the Control Panel's Sound applet and manually raise the volume for the microphone input in order to record audio.

You can increase the volume of recordings by raising the microphone volume in the Windows settings. If you are using Windows XP, open the Windows Control Panel. Double-click the Sounds and Audio Settings icon. The Sounds and Audio Device Properties window opens. On the Volume tab, in the Device Volume area, click the Advanced button. The Volume Control window opens. Look for a column with the title "Microphone". If the Microphone column is not visible, open the Options menu and click "Properties", and check the checkbox next to "Microphone", then click OK. In the Microphone column, drag the volume slider higher. This will increase the volume of all recorded audio on your system.

There are several ways to reduce the size of recordings. On the Performance tab of the Settings window there are two settings you can adjust: You can reduce the color depth of the recording. Reduce screen resolution while performing the recording. On the AVI Video tab, you can reduce the frame rate. However, this will make fast screen motion look slightly less smooth. If you are not going to use the audio, you can turn off sound recording from the General tab. Finally, you can convert the AVI file to Windows Media format (WMV). In fact, My Screen Recorder Pro can do this automatically using the Auto Task feature. Instructions on using Auto Task are in this article.

Recording in WMV (or any other highly-compressed format) requires a lot of computer resources. It would slow down what you're doing on the computer to do all the required computation while recording. By recording in uncompressed AVI, we avoid having to perform the compression while at the same time doing the other task that you are recording. We believe that this is the best way to handle this.

You can use the Split feature in My Screen Recorder Pro. It is accessible from Tools ] Split File or by clicking on the Split File button in the tool bar. Simply select the portion you want to keep by marking a start and end duration and perform the split. For distributing, you can use the Generate Executables feature which turns your screen recordings into self-playing files with a built in video player. My Screen Recorder Pro lets you create HTML pages with embedded screen recordings. These pages can be easily put on your website. Read our article on the various options for distributing screen recordings at this URL: https://deskshare.com/resources/articles/msrpro_distributingscreenrecordings.aspx

By default, conversion to WMV uses the Microsoft Screen Codec, which is optimized for screen recordings and produces very small videos. However, the Screen Codec will cause blurry fonts when the screen recording is done with the Windows ClearType technology enabled. This problem may also occur when you significantly resize the video during conversion. To overcome this problem, you must make screen recordings with features like ClearType turned off. Changing Windows XP's theme to Classic will also help. You can change both these settings from Display Properties. To open Display Properties, right click on the Desktop and select Properties.

This happens due to hardware acceleration. To record the video, you must turn off hardware acceleration. To do so, refer to My Screen Recorder Pro's help guide. You can also read about it online at: https://www.deskshare.com/help/msrpro/Disablinghardwareacceleration.aspx

Since you have already recorded the file, you can use Digital Media Converter by DeskShare to split the file. You can also convert the file to almost all popular formats. For more information on Digital Media Converter, visit: https://www.deskshare.com/audio-video-converter.aspx Another option is that you can start using My Screen Recorder Pro for any recordings you do in the future. The Pro version can automatically segment the file to pre-defined sizes. The segmenting option is available from Tools ] Settings ] File segments.

My Screen Recorder Pro has a built-in converter that supports resizing the screen-recordings to a custom dimension. Using the converter, you can select the AVI file you want to convert and specify any dimension including a dimension with 16:9 aspect ratio. For example, you may want to specify 800x450 or 960x540 pixels.
