By default, WebCam Monitor will not trigger motion when changes in the light are gradual. You can increase the motion detection sensitivity from the Tools ] Options ] Monitoring tab. If your camera has a backlight compensation feature then turning this option off may also help. This option tries to compensate for changes in light and hence sometimes interferes with motion detection. If the light is suddenly switched off then WebCam Monitor will detect motion.
