I was wondering if Digital Media Converter can extract a portion of a movie and save it separately from the main movie? Also, can this be done without changing the main movie?

I am adding short movies to a genealogy DVD and CD. What is the best format to use in these cases? I tried wmv and MP4. The wmv movies were not available to the person I sent the DVD to. I've tried converting the same movies to MP4 but have yet to hear if they are available to the person who's trying it.

Any suggestions of the file format to use in this case? Or any other hints?
