I know that Windows Media Center recordings can be copy protected. How can I test a file to see whether it is protected?

I recently had to reinstall Windows, and then Auto FTP Manager. I downloaded the latest version and tried to enter my serial number, but the number of digits required doesn't match the digits in my serial number. Please help.
