Viewing live stream from multiple PCs

Hi ...

I am using webcam monitor 3.6 for live web streaming (like a nannycam I guess) ... logitech quickcam attached to my XP desktop with cable modem.

When I start the webcam monitor, it tells me something like "to view live streaming, click mms://my-desktopcam:80 (and the status log suggests that I can also use http:)

Well, I can view the video remotely using my XP-laptop (WMP-11, IE 6), no problem. But on my pocket PC I cannot get it working.
In Windows Media: If I type in the mms url, then I get a Windows Media error message "cannot find the file". If I type in the http I get "the parameter is incorrect"
(this works on my laptop, remember).

So what's the difference here? Has anyone experienced the same thing?

By default, WebCam Monitor is set to allow 1 concurrent user to connect and view the streaming. To connect from multiple PCs, you must increase the maximum number of concurrent users allowed to connect.

To do so:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options
2. Select the Remote Monitoring tab.
3. Under Streaming, click Configure
4. Change the Maximum concurrent viewers setting.
5. Click OK

That wasn't the issue (or didn't solve the problem.

when I set streaming on, it tell me that the remote computer must go to https://192.168.x.xxx:YY

(the number looks a little suspciously like the IP address of my wireless router).

When I try this on a remote computer I get a page not found error (and IE6 removes the URL portion after the colon).

Any other ideas or suggestions? I would love to use the software. It looks great except for the fact that I can't get it to work ; )

When trying the link on a remote computer ensure that you use https:// to open the URL in Windows Media Player and mms:// in Internet Explorer. If this does not fix your problem then see if you are able to connect from the same computer. If you can then the problem is with the connection between the local and the remote computer. Generally, if you are able to ping the local computer from the remote computer then you should be able to view the streaming from the remote computer.

After trial and error of just getting the thing to work with 3 cameras, I've been trying the streaming video and get a server busy error, after reading this thread, I'm assuming because my home network has a Linksys WRT54GL, and 2 remote systems, this won't work because of the 192.168.1.1 IP..? Looked at that dydns.org site. not willing to pay the very high dollars they want. There MUST BE A WAY AROUND THIS.

In order to view the streaming video from outside your home network, you will have to set your LinkSys router to use "Port Forwarding". The WebCam Monitor User Guide has instructions on setting up streaming:

Use these procedures to select a port for streaming video, then configure the router to forward that port to the Internet from the PC running WebCam Monitor. This should make the video stream available outside your local network.

Dyndns.org would let you assign a domain name (such as yourname.dyndns.org) to your video stream. Another site that will do this for you is no-ip.org. Both offer free services. There are several other alternatives.
