You can try turning off Microphone Boost to reduce static.
To do so:
Open the Volume Control.
On the Options menu, click Properties.
Under 'Adjust volume for', click Recording.
Click OK.
Click Advanced.
Under Other Controls, uncheck the Microphone Boost option.
