I would like to record any motion when I'm away from home, but in the absence of movement, would like to see a photo every few hours. Can this be done?

You can accomplish this by creating 2 connections to the camera. Add the camera the first time, and configure it for motion detection with the alerts you would like. Once that is working, add the camera again and configure your timed pictures.
